Double complex cocycles for p-branes

A double complex consisting of superspace forms under the action of the de Rham differential and a ghost field differential is introduced. A naturally associated single complex with a total differential D is defined. The Wess-Zumino term becomes a potential for a D cocycle associated with the p-brane. The algebras of generators of the left and right group actions are modified in the presence of theWess-Zumino term. The D cocycle contains these modifications as representatives. Due to gauge freedom in the choice of representative for the cocycle, the topological anomalous term for the Noether charge algebra is described by a D cohomology class. In the case of the Green-Schwarz superstring it is found that the anomalous term generates a spectrum of supertranslation algebras parameterized by a free constant. This spectrum of algebras contains and generalizes the known extended superalgebras associated with the superstring.
